Filter It — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 21, 2026

Summary: Filter It does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data. Everything the extension does happens locally in your own browser.

What Filter It does

Filter It is a browser extension for YouTube. It reads the captions of a video you are watching, mutes the audio when a word on your filter list is spoken, and masks that word in the captions with stars (e.g. f**k).

Data we collect

None. Filter It does not collect any personal information, browsing history, video history, or any other user data. Nothing you do in the extension is sent to us or to any third party.

Data stored on your device

Filter It uses Chrome's local storage permission to save your own settings on your own device, so they persist between sessions. This includes:

This data stays on your device. It is never transmitted anywhere, and we have no access to it.

Host permission

Filter It requests permission to run on youtube.com pages only. This is required so the extension can read caption data and control video playback (muting) in sync with the captions, and to show its settings UI on the page. This permission is not used to track, log, or send your browsing activity anywhere.

Remote code

Filter It does not load or execute any remote code. All code runs from the extension package installed in your browser.

Third parties

Filter It does not share data with any third party, because it does not collect any data to share.
